A QR code is a Quick Response square-shaped barcode that can be scanned by smartphones to quickly provide additional information about a product, open a website, send an email, or to quickly transfer contact or vCard information to a smartphone. If you scan the QR code on this page with your smartphone QR reader app you can easily and quickly add my name, email, website URL, and other contact information to your cell phone contacts list. (I purposely left my phone number off of this particular QR code.)
Most smartphones today are shipped with a QR reader app already installed. For instance, my smartphone included the fast and easy-to-use AT&T Code Scanner. All I have to do is click on the app, place my phone over or in front of the QR code, and usually within two seconds it records the information. Then all I have to do is click Save. If I am talking to a potential client, I can quickly call up my QR code on my smartphone; he or she can simply take out their smartphone, scan my QR code, and then add me to their contact list, all in a matter in seconds.
If you do not currently have a QR reader app on your smartphone, you can download a free one for your iPhone from the iTunes store. If you have another smartphone brand, simply do an app or Web search for “free QR reader.”
